A story is told concerning how Charles Wesley wrote his famous hymn, "Jesus, Lover Of
My Soul." He was conducting an open-air meeting in Ireland. Some of Wesley's hearers
took offense to what he said and began to assault him. Wesley ran for his life to a nearby
farmhouse where Jane Moore, a sympathetic farmer's wife, hid him under a hedge beside
a small stream, until the crowd gave up searching for him. According to the story,
Wesley, remembering this incident, wrote:
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly,
Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly,
