In talking to an acquaintance...

In talking to an acquaintance one day about growing roses, I said casually, "They are supposed to be able to grow just about anywhere." To which he replied, "Yes, and they'll die just about anywhere, too." His comment rings true for many who have tried rose horticulture -- there can be challenges all along the way, and even when one has tried one's best, the one that winter kills is always a disappointment. Rose horticulturists have many ways of protecting roses over the winter, and each has his/her favored method, according to climate.
