The temple, rebuilt by King...
Illustration
The temple, rebuilt by King Herod (37 B.C. to A.D. 4), was perched upon the Temple Mount, 145 acres of prime real estate (approximately 30 football fields) above the city of Jerusalem. It is the largest man-made platform in the ancient world. The Roman military response to the revolt of A.D. 66-70 has left its mark. One can still see scorched stone where structures used to be at the time of Jesus. The temple itself was completely demolished, such that no one today knows for certain exactly where it was situated on the Temple Mount.
