Their faces look at us...

Their faces look at us longingly, hauntingly, from the pages of the Times, the women and children and men of Rwanda who have suffered more than most of us can begin to imagine. The fortunate ones are on the long road toward Tanzania, all their worldly possessions on their backs, forming a stream of exile, thousands upon thousands of them sleeping in the open in refugee camps. And deep within the look of those people, God's children, lies the question tucked in the passage appointed for today, "But if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us?
