There is a story told by Eleanor Doan. A farmer hired a certain man and asked him to paint his barn. He estimated that it would take three days, but the man did it in one. Then he asked him to cut a pile of wood. He estimated it would take four days; it took one day. Then he asked the man to sort a pile of potatoes. He wanted them divided into three piles: one for seed potatoes; one pile that he could sell; one pile which he could use to feed the hogs. He estimated that it would take one day.
