In these Advent days, it is good to recall Isaiah's words, in the RSV, about not having "a faint spirit." (vs. 3) Some historical events which happened December 16 reveal no "faint spirit":
1773 -- the Boston Tea Party occurred when Paul Revere, John Hancock, and about 100 others dressed as Indians and threw tea into the harbor to protest a tax on it.
1811 -- The New Madrid Earthquake occurred, which quite literally shook much of the nation.
