Thornton Wilder, in the play Our Town, asks deeper questions about the quality of one's life. The haunting line is asked by one of the main characters, Emily, of the Stage Manager (symbol for God). "Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it -- every, every minute?" Emily died at the age of 26 and is permitted by the Stage Manager to return to her home to relive just one day of her life. She chooses her twelfth birthday. She discovers her family members are occupied with daily problems and concerns.
