Those who have lived with...

Those who have lived with autistic children have learned a special kind of patience and live with a special kind of frustration. Often, they watched their children grow and develop normally up to a point, and then drift slowly but steadily backward. Their darling baby learned basic words, learned to walk, gained confidence and skills, only to then return to an earlier level of ability. Sometimes they become infantile again, unable to talk or communicate except perhaps in a broken way.
