Those who most effectively bridge gaps within the human community live as if there are no gaps. Rosa Parks, when she refused to move to the back of the bus on December 1, 1955, decided at that moment that her weariness was the same as the weariness of all the others in the bus. Miep Gies, when she agreed with some of her co-workers to harbor the family of Anne Frank, acknowledged that all people deserve respect and dignity.
