Throughout this passage, we are repeatedly shown that one's worth is not measured by an abundance of words or self-attestations. Firstly, this is demonstrated in the case of the centurion. Rather than presenting his dossier to Jesus himself, others testify to his worthiness and magnanimous philanthropy. Initially, the Jewish elders give their endorsement and then Jesus proclaims him as an example for the chosen.
