Tiffany brought the seed home from school, carefully carrying the little cup so the soil would not spill. She was captivated by the slender bean stalk, and explained to Dad that night about the way the seed knows to put roots downward into the soil and leaves and stem upward into the air. "Isn't that amazing," she said, "that that little bean seed knows that all by itself?"
