Transformation a degree at a time becomes evident in processes like those employed by Hollywood's make-up artists. In 1968 a film debuted that stood the special effects world on its ear. The most amazing thing about the Planet of the Apes was its innovative make-up. Actors spent hours each day preparing for filming. The process was for gradual and layered application to retain the maximum realism. Bit by bit the cast was transformed into a whole society of apes. The makeup used consisted of pliable foam latex attached to the skin with hair and other items affixed.
