True mediators are of rare noe in the world. One such figure that has achieved near-legendary status is Dag Hammarskjold. A remarkable man with a penchant for political economy, he is credited with having coined the phrase "planned economy" while a professor of economics at Stockholm University. He first attracted attention as an international financial negotiator. In 1946 he became the financial adviser of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1949 he became Sweden's representative to the United Nations.
