Two of the best remembered...

Two of the best remembered pieces of the Reformation are associated with two of the most painful periods in the life of the reformer Dr. Martin Luther. The first followed a fitful week of depression for Luther. In the midst of the heightened controversy of the Reformation, a plague came to Wittenberg forcing the evacuation of the university. The friary, which was the Lutherhaus, became a hospital and the scene of much despair. It was during these days that Luther composed the hymn, "A Mighty Fortress is Our God."
