Upon reflecting on this passage, I am struck by the fact that more people than we think take new names.
Movie stars choose cute, subtle, inviting, sexy names they hope will be household words. Men who want to be noted for their machismo take nicknames, such as Fred "Bozo" Jones, and actually sign letters with "Bozo" and think of themselves accordingly, rather than Fred.
Both our children were given double names. During childhood we called them by their middle names. As they grew, both of them chose to be called by their first names.
