We had lived in the house 18 years and the accumulated stuff would make a mountain. An old hat came back from years ago; the short parasol from Rome showed up; a tennis ball rolled across the dining room floor. My winter coat, rarely used here in the deep south, fell out of the big trunk dragged from the walk-in attic. Nor were we surprised when roaches scurried across the floor in search of new hiding places.
