When in 1996 religious columnist Mike McManus completed fifteen years of writing his column "Ethics & Religion" he paused for a few reflections. All these years he had wrestled with the paradox that America was the world's most religious nation, but the least ethical. After fifteen years of observations he could only conclude, "Religion is gaining ground but morality is losing ground."
