When the crew of the starship Enterprise would encounter an enemy ship which had activated its "cloaking device," it was a time for extreme caution and cunning because no visual contact was possible. In one sense, clothing "cloaks" us against the elements and provides a covering of modesty in keeping with most societal mores.
