When I was a boy...
Illustration
When I was a boy, I heard about people being tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail. It happened mostly out west, in little towns, and the people so treated had usually committed some crime or social outrage. It seemed rather cruel to me, even at an early age, but I understood it as the community saying they just wouldn't put up with such behavior in their midst.
