When I was a young seminarian, I heard a professor of Far Eastern religions make the following statement: "There are no absolutes in Christianity!" I didn't agree with the professor then, and I still don't agree with the professor. Certainly, there are absolutes in Christianity, and one of them is the absoluteness of Jesus' authority. When Matthew records that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to the resurrected Jesus, I'd say that's an example par excellence of genuine, absolute authority!
