When I was young my mother would often say to me, "You are getting too big for your pants." She would then proceed to, as she stated it, "put me in my place." This appears to be what God was doing with Job. When we are feeling too big for our pants in regard to who God is maybe we need to be reminded of a few things.
Did you realize that three-fourths of the earth's surface is covered by the ocean? Within these waters are thousands of different life forms. There are 8-tentacled octopi to blind fish; microscopic organisms to the blue whale which can be as big as a 10-story building and weigh as much as 33 elephants.
Then there is the human being. Starting as one fertilized egg, in nine months we are a baby made up of 3 trillion cells. As an adult weighing 170 pounds we will have 100 trillion cells in our body. If our blood vessels were somehow tied end to end they would reach 100,000 miles or 4 times around the center of the earth.
The things we are discovering about our universe are mind boggling. Our sun is 93 million miles away and it takes the sunlight 8 minutes to get here. Our sun and earth are a part of a cluster of 200 billion stars known as the Milky Way Galaxy. But that is not all, it is estimated that there are 1 billion other galaxies. I once heard this example used to describe the magnitude of our galaxy. If you held a grapefruit to represent the sun, in order to bring everything to scale, the earth would be a grain of sand 35 feet away. The next closest grapefruit sun would be somewhere around the Sequoia National Park located about half-way between Las Vegas, Nevada, and Fresno, California (that is approximately 2,000 miles from middle Tennessee).
