When Jim Wallis was a theological student at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois, he often took a certain Bible with him as he went to preach as a student pastor. The Bible, given to him by a friend, hung in threads. His friend had taken a pair of scissors and cut out every reference to the poor.
This young minister set out to piece the Bible back together by calling men and women, young and old, to confront the major theme of poverty in the Bible and do something about it.
