When Paul authored his letter...
Illustration
When Paul authored his letter to the Philippians, he was probably chained to a prison wall. He had to dictate the epistle to his friend and scribe, Timothy. The place where he was held was dark, dank, unsanitary and crawling with vermin. Yet he could sing: "Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus." Paul was in prison because of his bold way of proclaiming the Christian faith. If he renounced his faith, the reason for his imprisonment would disappear. But Paul would never renounce the faith that had reshaped his life ever since his Damascus road encounter with Christ.
