When William Barclay's daughter was 21 years old she was involved in a terrible yachting accident. Both she and the young man she was to marry drowned. In a radio interview some years later, Barclay spoke of that incident indicating that he could never believe that suffering, pain or death are the will of God. He stated, "God did not stop that accident at sea, but he did still the storm in my own heart, so that somehow my wife and I came through that terrible time on our own two feet."
