Workplace violence is on the rise. Until recently, such violence was limited almost exclusively to strikes and nasty contract disputes. Now, it is not uncommon to hear about disgruntled postal employees using semiautomatics, angry fast food workers carrying out mean, closing-hour plans, or discontented hospital staff dispensing life-threatening medications, all because of their anger, depression, or despair. They feel helpless and their future seems hopeless, and their moment of seizing control is intended to soothe their powerlessness.
