For years, advertisers have used a wide variety of tactics to sell powders, potions, food products, vitamins, and all sorts of appliances and equipment "guaranteed" to make the consumer more attractive or physically fit. The illusion being sold is that self-improvement can be a fast, painless process. Excluding superficial cosmetic "quick fixes," the truth is, lasting self-improvement plans require an investment beyond the financial level. We must also invest our time and energy -- usually for extended periods of time and not just for a day or two.
