Children's sermon
Object:
Blindfold
Good morning! This morning I want to do an exercise in faith.
We talk about faith a lot here at church but today we are going
to show what faith is. Some would say that faith is like believe.
For example, you believe I exist, don't you? After all, you can
see me, feel me, hear me. But faith is more than that. We can't
really see, feel or hear God the way we experience other human
beings. Faith is more than belief.
Faith also involves trust. I want to demonstrate trust here this morning by tying this blindfold on someone. Can I have a volunteer? (Get one of the children to volunteer -- if none do, then explain what you would have done had you had a volunteer.) I'm going to put this blindfold on you and lead you around. May I do that? (Do it.)
What was that like? You had to trust me or you would not have let me lead you. I could have led you into something or caused you to stumble and fall. Instead you trusted me.
This is close to the way we have faith in God. It means that we believe in God so much that we are willing to let God lead us -- even though we cannot see the way. I am glad that God is so trustworthy!
