Give Someone A Jesus-Hug
Children's sermon
The Giant Book Of Children's Sermons
Matthew To Revelation
Object: a hug
Good morning, boys and girls. Today we are going to talk about something really wonderful that I am sure all of you will enjoy. We are going to talk about the way God the Father felt about Jesus. We don't think much about that kind of thing because we all know that the Father loved Jesus. But even though we know that, it is still good to think about it sometimes and talk about it when we are together.
Before we talk about Jesus and the Father, I want to show you something. I want to give each of you a hug and tell you how much I care about you. I don't think that I have ever done that with you before, but I want to do it today so that you will know that you are really important to me. (begin to hug the children) I look forward to seeing you every Sunday morning here at the time for the children's sermon. This is a very important time to me and I plan it each week so that we can be together. Do you like to be hugged? (let them answer) Of course you do. All of us really like to be hugged because it shows us that someone else really cares about us.
God the Father cared about Jesus. The day that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptizer in the River Jordan, the Father did something that Jesus would never forget for as long as he lived on earth. When Jesus was coming up out of the water, the clouds in the sky separated and there was a voice which came from heaven that said, "You are the Son that I love in a special way and I am really happy with the way that you are doing things." God the Father is the one that said this to Jesus and it made him feel great.
All of us feel great when our mom or dad gives us a special hug and tells us how much we mean to them. I like it a lot when you tell me I am special to you. I feel like I can do things that I would not be able to do if you did not love me in a special way.
That's why I wanted to give you a hug today so that you would know that you are really special to me, and I appreciate you very much. Maybe you will want to give someone else a hug today and tell them that they are special and make them feel as good as you feel.
The next time someone gives you a hug - or you give one to someone else - I want you to remember the day Jesus was baptized. For on that day the Father showed Jesus how pleased he was with him and it made Jesus feel good! Will you do that? Will you give someone a hug today to show them how much you care about them? That's wonderful. God bless you.
