Many congregations will celebrate the first Sunday in November as All Saints Sunday, using those lectionary texts rather than the ones assigned for Proper 26 -- so in this installment of The Immediate Word, team member Dean Feldmeyer addresses the lectionary gospel passage for All Saints Sunday, which features Luke’s version of the Beatitudes. Jesus makes a point here of contrasting the unlimited blessings that await those who are poor and hungry and reviled in this world with the tangible but ultimately temporary blessings of those who have earthly riches.
