One of the most fascinating aspects of Luke's account of the first Pentecost is the wide variety of languages spoken by the participants. Despite that impediment, the Holy Spirit enabled everyone present to "speak about God's deeds of power" in each other's languages and to "hear [and understand], each of us, in our own native language." The vast number of languages in the world can pose a daunting challenge to sharing the gospel, as missionaries have long known.
