Call To Worship
This world is no accident, but the product of design and purpose. Our presence here is no accident as well, but planned before time by a God who loves us.
Collect (Psalm 8:9)
(Unison) O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Purpose and meaning are built into your universe, O Lord. The stars in the sky, the atoms of the earth, the seen and unseen, what we can explain and what defies belief, all these together are a faint reflection of your unutterable glory. In the face of the majesty and wonder all around us, how can we lose ourselves as your congregation in unworthy actions, petty bickering, and a lack of faith in your providence? But we do. Forgive us, Lord, and restore us to our place in this marvelous cosmos. Amen.
Hymns
"O Lord, Our Lord, How Majestic Is Your Name"
"I Sing The Mighty Power Of God"
"This Is My Father's World"
Holy Trinity
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13
Theme: A Holy Kiss
Call To Worship
Greet one another in Christ in comfort and trust, sharing the blessing while passing on the promise.
Collect
We thank you for this living community, Spirit of God, where we are loved, comforted, challenged, and nurtured. We thank you, Heavenly Father, for the world where you have planted us. We thank you, Son of God, for the redemption which comes to us through your cross and resurrection. Father, Son, Holy Spirit, One God. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, your Spirit burst into our history at Pentecost, strengthening us as your people for great things. In this season of Pentecost we ask to be inspired so we might give all of our lives to your ministry and service. Hallow our efforts and use them for your work in the world. Amen.
Hymns
"I Am Trusting Thee, Lord Jesus"
"As The Deer"
"Comfort, Comfort Ye My People"
Holy Trinity
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 28:16-20
Theme: But Some Doubted
Call To Worship (Psalm 8)
(Unison) O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Collect
Lord, before we ever stood in the midst of this community you knew we would be here. Before we spoke what was on our mind, your Spirit was moving in our midst, calling us to care for each other in your name. Like your disciples we stand before you on the mount in Galilee, amazed, astonished, even doubting, but determined to be your witnesses. Help us in our healing that we might heal others. Open our hearts to the possibilities of ministering both within and beyond our congregation. Challenge us to take your message to all people, and to receive from all people as well. Lord, our joys and our concerns we offer this morning as we seek your will for our lives. These things we pray in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Thank you, Lord, for telling us in your word that your work was so vital that you included the doubters in the great commission. We are all needed, all loved, all cherished. We come to the mountain of resurrection to stand in your presence, but are prepared to return to your hurting world to share your healing and salvation. Amen.
Hymns
"Praise The Lord, Sing Hallelujah"
"How Great Thou Art"
"Savior Of My Soul" (see page 245)
