Lectionary Tales for the Pulpit
This is a story about two young men I once encountered. The first young man I met in a juvenile detention center. He was in jail for having killed his brother. Each time that I came to visit, we would talk about his life in jail and how things were going for him. We would talk about what he might do if he were not in jail. Then I worked up the courage to ask him why he had killed his brother. I thought the answer might be that his brother attacked him or something like that. Instead, he said that he had killed his brother because his brother slapped him in the face.
