"I can't figure this out," complained a little boy. He was stuck on a homework problem in arithmetic. His father stooped down beside him and asked him to read the problem. The boy picked up his composition book and read, "If a carpenter was paid $3 a day, how much did he earn in four days?" The father scratched his head and said, "A carpenter making $3 a day? No wonder you can't figure it out! That's not arithmetic. That's ancient history."
