Call To Worship (Psalm 70)
One: Be pleased, O God, to deliver me. O Lord, make haste to help me!
All: Let those be put to shame and confusion who seek my life. Let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who desire to hurt me.
One: Let those who say, "Aha, Aha!" turn back because of their shame.
All: Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation say evermore, "God is great!"
One and All: But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!
Collect
Today we count the cost of our discipleship. Today we consider what it truly means to be a disciple. Lord, with fear and trembling, yet a paradoxical joy, we say, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord! Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Have we come so far only to shrink back? No. Not now. You have clearly taught us the cost of discipleship, but have also shared with us the joys of our fellowship together. We choose you, Lord, against the vain and empty pleasures of the world. We want to go forward with your guidance and your vision. Amen.
Hymns
"Lead On, O Cloud Of Presence"
"Take My Hand"
"We Have Heard The Joyful Sound: Jesus Saves!"
Proper 27/Ordinary Time 32
Sunday between November 6 and November 12
Second Lesson: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Theme: A Seldom Heard Encouraging Word
Call To Worship
Tell me the beautiful story of Jesus who will return. Sound the trumpet. Raise the shout. Rise in worship!
Collect
Not in ignorance but with the delightful knowledge of the Lord's return, we pray God of Hope that you will grant us all opportunities both within our community of faith and beyond in a suffering world to tell the glorious story to those who have not heard. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Let the world know that the story is not over. Let the world hear that we will not be silenced. Let the world resist, but we shall not be moved. Justice and mercy, praise and salvation, death, resurrection, and return - this is our message. Christ has died. Christ has risen. Christ will come again. Amen.
Hymns
"Soon And Very Soon"
"Steal Away"
"The Beautiful River"
Proper 27/Ordinary Time 32
Sunday between November 6 and November 12
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 25:1-13
Theme: No Time For Napping
Call To Worship (Ephesians 5:14)
"Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."
Collect (reminiscent of Habakkuk 2)
Tell us in a parable, or tell us plainly. Write it in large words, Lord, that we might read while moving fast, or speak to us quietly in the still of the long night. We want to hear your holy word today. We want to understand. May we comprehend with the help of your Spirit. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we are only human. We spend your blessings as swiftly as they arrive, trusting that you will always provide what we need spiritually. How do we save them? Where do we store blessings? We want to be ready when the bridegroom returns. We want to leave enough oil in our lamp for this long awaited moment. We need your help. We need you, Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"Sleepers, Wake!"
"Fling Wide The Door, Unbar The Gate!"
"Shall We Gather At The River"
