JESUS: (ENTERS AND CROSSES TO NATHANAEL) Nathanael, follow me.
DISTURBING ANGEL: (ENTERS AND CROSSES BEHIND NATHANAEL) Pay no attention to him. He probably wants to sell you something. Or he wants you to commit some time to a project. You've done this before. What's it got you? Nothing! Pass him by. Act like you didn't hear him.
MINISTERING ANGEL: (ENTERS AND CROSSES BEHIND NATHANAEL) This is the person you've been studying about, the Messiah, the Chosen One.
DISTURBING ANGEL: How can you be sure he's the one? If you follow him you might get in a lot of trouble with the religious authorities.
MINISTERING ANGEL: But just think if it, if he is the one he might teach you things about God and a relationship with God. That would be worth the risk, wouldn't it?
DISTURBING ANGEL: Risk is a good appraisal of this situation. You have a family to think of. What happens to them if you go off somewhere with this man doing who knows what?
MINISTERING ANGEL: You've been studying what Moses and the prophets have said about him. What do you remember about what you studied?
NATHANAEL: I remember something out of the book of Job. "Oh, that I knew where I might find Him."
MINISTERING ANGEL: Good. Good. You have wanted to talk to God, haven't you? Well, here's your chance.
DISTURBING ANGEL: Oh, that's good. You want to talk to God. Do you know what people will say about you if they even get a hint that you "talk to God"? You're going to lose all your friends. You don't have that many friends that you can afford to lose any.
MINISTERING ANGEL: But what if this man is the "friend that sticks closer than a brother"?
NATHANAEL: "There is a friend that sticks closer than a brother."
MINISTERING ANGEL: Yes. Remember that. Here is that friend, Jesus of Nazareth.
NATHANAEL: Yes, I believe it might be. But Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?
DISTURBING ANGEL: I couldn't have said it better myself. Don't you think Philip is overreacting? He tends to do that. You need to stay away from this guy. He could get you into something you don't want to be in. You could get in trouble with the religious authorities.
MINISTERING ANGEL: But what about Philip? Remember, he said, "Come and see." Now, there's a friend who cares about you. You can trust Philip. He has found the Messiah and you're the first person he shared that news with. You know he loves you.
DISTURBING ANGEL: Don't you wonder why Philip says, "Come and see"? If he really cared that much about you why doesn't he ever explain anything to you? No, he just says, "Come and see." And he expects you to follow like some dog following his master.
MINISTERING ANGEL: Now, listen, has Philip been a friend or not? Didn't you study the scriptures together? You've had some great discussions about the Messiah. Aren't you the least bit interested in who this Jesus is?
JESUS: Here is an honest man. A true son of Israel.
NATHANAEL: How do you know me or what I'm like?
DISTURBING ANGEL: That's right. This may be a trap. Has your "friend" Philip been talking behind your back? Watch yourself.
MINISTERING ANGEL: If they've been talking behind your back it must have been all good things. Jesus only said true things to you. This is the Messiah. The Chosen One. Listen to him.
JESUS: When you were under the fig tree I saw you. Before Philip called you.
DISTURBING ANGEL: Oh, this is too much. This is spooky stuff. You better get out of here. This guy is some kind of weird guy.
MINISTERING ANGEL: Aren't you interested in someone who had so much interest in you? There were a lot of people around today when Jesus passed by. He could only have picked you out of the crowd if he was the Son of God.
NATHANAEL: Teacher, you are truly the son of God and the King of Israel.
JESUS: Do you believe all this just because I told you I had seen you under the fig tree? You will see greater proofs than that. You will even see heaven open and the angels of God coming back and forth to me, the Messiah.
DISTURBING ANGEL: This is really getting out of hand. You're an intelligent man. Do you really think he wants people to take him seriously?
NATHANAEL: Wait a minute! I believe him. Get out of here.
DISTURBING ANGEL: Now, that's no way to talk to an old friend. I was trying to talk some sense into the situation. Now, listen to me.
NATHANAEL: No! I'm not going to listen to you anymore.
DISTURBING ANGEL: Now, wait a minute. You have taken some good sound advice from me in the past and I intend to stay around just to protect you from this man. What he says is disturbing.
JESUS: Absolutely not! Now, you just leave. (DISTURBING ANGEL BEGINS TO COMPLAIN) Not a word. Just leave. (DISTURBING ANGEL EXITS)
MINISTERING ANGEL: Praise to you, Jesus. You are the victorious one. (MINISTERING ANGEL CONTINUES TO PRAISE AS ALL EXIT)
