Gentle Words In A Raging Storm
Prayers for all occasions
O Great God of justice and mercy,
you have called us to be a pilgrim people, to venture
into strange lands and combat our fears of the unknown,
the untried.
You bid us walk through the narrow gate,
to take the road less traveled:
the road of human pain and suffering;
the road of self-sacrifice;
the trailway of a courageous spirit.
Forgive our timidity, our reluctance to leave the
comfort of our familiar lifestyles and share the
difficult struggle of living that confronts most of
the world.
Open our ears that we may hear their cry;
open our hearts to pray with and for them;
open our mouths to admonish inequity and announce
the good news of your liberating love.
Thank you, Lord, for giving these young people a
vision, for calling them to a mission of hard toil
and helping hands.
As the hands of your Son were scarred by his work
of salvation,
so may the blisters and calluses on the hands of our
sons and daughters be a sign of their work of love.
Finally, we ask your blessing on all your children
who work for your Kingdom on earth
and raise their hands together in prayer. Amen.
