Theme For The Day
Corpus Christi is a great mass held in honor of the Holy Eucharist. The name comes from the Latin, Festum sanctissimi Corpus Christi. In German the title is Fronleichnamsfest, which is the feast of the Body of our Lord. It all began with a pious Augustinian nun named Juliana of Liege about 1209, who reported a vision that said there should be a feast in honor of the sacrament. It was first known as Festum Eucharistiae and spread rapidly through the church in the thirteenth century. One could say it is a Holy Thursday without the sadness.
