Call To Worship (from Genesis 28:16-17)
Surely the Lord is in this place - and I did not know it! How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
Collect
You are found not in luxury, Lord, but on stone pillows as we run from our fears. We know that seen and unseen, angels are rising to and descending from your holy throne. We thank you that heaven is always in our midst for those with eyes that see. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, your promises to our father Jacob were infinite and unconditional. His response was conditional - he told you all the things he would do in your honor if things worked out. We recognize ourselves in Jacob - receiving boundless promises of grace and salvation, and hoping to work out a response if time and finances suit. We will try once more to truly imitate your love in our relationship with you and with the sisters and brothers here and around the world. Surely this is the gate of heaven. This time we want to walk through. Amen.
Hymns
"Come Thou Font Of Every Blessing"
"Nearer My God To Thee"
"My Faith Looks Up To Thee"
Proper 11/Ordinary Time 16
Sunday between July 17 and July 23 inclusive
Second Lesson: Romans 8:26-39
Theme: Who Vouches For Us?
Call To Worship (based on Psalms 118 and 119)
One: This is the day that the Lord has made.
All: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
One: Lord, you are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.
All: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
One: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
All: For his steadfast love endures forever.
Collect
Today we come together as God's people, sure of God's wisdom in charting our paths. After a time of long waiting we see God's faithful promises fulfilled in our midst once again. Bind us together, Lord, as your servant people, secure in your love and blessed in your mercy. As your will for our lives together unfolds, day by day, open our hearts and minds to the glory of your will for your people. Bless us as we seek to witness to your glory in the world around us and beyond us. These things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
In this world full of accusations and second guesses, Lord, we take heart because it is you who answers for us, you who justifies us, you who redeems us. Amen.
Hymns
"Jesus, Priceless Treasure"
"Christ Be With Me, Christ Within Me"
"Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know"
Proper 11/Ordinary Time 16
Sunday between July 17 and July 23 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52
Theme: The Harvest Is Closer Than You Think
Call To Worship (Psalm 139:23-24)
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Collect
Lord, we offer up to you this day this meal which we are about to share, partaking of the Bread of Life, your most Holy Word. Through this bounty of scripture you have blessed us. May we use this nourishment to strengthen our bodies in service to your Word. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Had we the faith of a mustard seed, ready to grow into your will for our lives, we would have changed the world. Yet we may, Lord. Plant with us again the seeds of possibility and water these with your love and your word. Amen.
Hymns
"Holy, Holy, Holy"
"Immortal Invisible"
"Amazing Grace"
