The Day of Pentecost
Poems
A Gospel Treasury
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
The atmosphere
was full of fear
that awe-filled evening.
The gath'ring room
was gaunt with gloom,
a direful happening.
The door was locked
and no one knocked.
The mood was tense and grim
Then he appeared.
Fear disappeared.
With joy they welcomed him.
His peace, he gave
which made them brave
to face adversity.
He sent them out,
no more in doubt,
with new audacity.
That's not the end.
I'll not pretend,
as one who's scared and faint would.
We too are sent.
was full of fear
that awe-filled evening.
The gath'ring room
was gaunt with gloom,
a direful happening.
The door was locked
and no one knocked.
The mood was tense and grim
Then he appeared.
Fear disappeared.
With joy they welcomed him.
His peace, he gave
which made them brave
to face adversity.
He sent them out,
no more in doubt,
with new audacity.
That's not the end.
I'll not pretend,
as one who's scared and faint would.
We too are sent.
