Background
These old Christmas carols were researched in the early 1970s while the author was a seminary student at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. and student pastor of four small churches, the Saint Thomas Charge on Maryland's Eastern Shore. They were later integrated into a Christmas Eve Service at Coral Way United Methodist Church, Miami, Florida.
