Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let all of God's people enter the house of the Lord for worship!
People: Since ancient times God's people have gathered to hear God's Word.
Leader: Messengers chosen by God have called us into faith and action.
People: Only those truly called of God may stand against the world.
Leader: Let our voices join together in thanksgiving for God's prophets.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, only You in Your infinite wisdom could have understood our need to hear Your word afresh through Your messengers to each new generation. We gratefully give You our praise. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, too often we have taken lightly those whom You have sent to bring us Your word. Too often we have critically trained our focus on them to see only the same human flaws we possess while we ignored the very word of guidance You sent them to give us. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to train our hearts to listen for Your will and guidance in our lives. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"My Hope Is Built"
"O Young And Fearless Prophet"
"Jesus, Lover Of My Soul"
Fourth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13
Theme: The only True and Eternal God
Call To Worship
Leader: Arise and give thanks, for God's Light has come!
People: The glory of the Lord is with us this day!
Leader: Let all who would see find God's light in our lives.
People: Let us receive God's light and share it with all the world!
Leader: And from the joy in our hearts let us lift our voices in praise!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O Lord, there are no other powers or forces or entities of any sort that can compare to Your majesty and greatness. Yet You have chosen to love us in our humble estate. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have failed to reach out and be the witnesses of Your grace You would have us to be. And so often our words have been good, but our hearts and deeds have fallen short of how You would have us to live. Forgive us, Lord, and give us the courage and strength to openly live the witness You would have us lovingly share with the world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah"
"God, That Madest Earth And Heaven"
"Nearer, My God, To Thee"
Fourth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: Mark 1:21-28
Theme: Jesus, the Lord of All
Call To Worship
Leader: Let every worshiper of Christ enter this day for worship!
People: For we were once unclean and entangled in the ways of sin.
Leader: But the saving power of the Lord is beyond all we might imagine,
People: Not even the powers of the evil one can stand before the Christ.
Leader: Then let our hearts be joined in praise for God's redeeming love.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and merciful God, through the cross You opened the way for each one who will accept Your Lordship to receive Your mercy and grace to be redeemed. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, in so many of the events that make up our lives we have allowed ourselves to see only a hopelessness and despair. Too often we have even abandoned the true hope You gave to us so we might know Your joy. Forgive us, Lord, and help us keep our focus on Your promises and Your Word and not the workings of the world or the powers of darkness. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Give Me The Faith Which Can Remove"
"Hymn Of Promise"
"O Master, Let Me Walk With Thee"
