Fourth Sunday After Epiphany
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Series VI, Cycle A
Object:
Theme: Genuine Piety
Call To Worship
We who are so prone to define life in terms of money, of success, of pleasure: it is a good thing for us to excuse ourselves for a time from the confused arenas of this world, and to sit quietly at the feet of Jesus. Come, let us worship!
Invocation
O Holy God, creator of heaven and earth, enable us this hour to set aside all idols: all distractions and misconceptions of your being, all false gods and substitute saviors. May we worship you as instructed, in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Confession
Almighty God, too long have we put our trust in creeds and ritual when we know what you really require of us. Yes, we have not always sought justice, nor have we been the kindest persons, and certainly we have not always walked humbly with you. Forgive us our shortcomings, we pray, and enable us to present ourselves, by our deeds, before you as children of light rather than darkness. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord, we offer unto you these gifts of gratitude for all you have done for us. With them we pledge ourselves to serve one another in love and kindness, not only by words but also by deeds, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"O Worship The King"
"What Does The Lord Require"
"Lord, I Want To Be A Christian"
