Fourth Sunday In Lent
Worship
Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle B, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who have known the mercy of the Lord gather now for worship!
People: In our darkest moments the Lord has always heard our cries.
Leader: The Lord is our salvation even when all hope seems lost.
People: For God's ways are not our ways and to God nothing is impossible.
Leader: Come then, and let our voices be joined in praise to Almighty God!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, even in the days of Moses You knew we would falter and stumble. When the venomous snakes appeared and Your children seemed doomed, Your salvation came through faith. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, like the Hebrew Children, we have complained and taken our vision away from Your leadership and focused only on the problems in the world around us. Too often, Lord, we have even believed You did not have the power to change this world and we have allowed our faith to falter. Forgive us, O God, and once again help us to return our focus to You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Stand Up And Bless The Lord"
"Lord For Tomorrow And Its Needs"
"Open My Eyes, That I May See"
Fourth Sunday In Lent
Second Lesson: Ephesians 2:1-10
Theme: Saved by grace alone for good works
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all the land ring out with the sounds of praise to the Lord!
People: But who is worthy to enter God's house and to sing God's praise?
Leader: Only those pure in heart and deed and without sin before the Lord.
People: But we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of the Lord.
Leader: Yet in Christ, we are all washed clean and called to worship God.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and righteous God, through Your merciful and loving heart You came to us even while we were lost and mired in our sins and offered us Your saving grace. We praise You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, so often we try to seek our salvation in the good works we see ourselves doing and not by the grace You extended to us through the cross. Too often, Lord, we even allow ourselves to believe our works make us "better" in Your eyes, and we fail to see that we are forgiven only by Your Grace, and good works are what You called us to be about. Forgive us, O Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Amazing Grace"
"Love Divine, All Loves Excelling"
"Bringing In The Sheaves"
Fourth Sunday In Lent
Gospel: John 3:14-21
Theme: Christ is our light and our salvation.
Call To Worship
Leader: The Light came that we might not be condemned to eternal darkness.
People: When we live in the Light we have fellowship with God and each other.
Leader: For God was in Christ bringing reconciliation to the world.
People: God did not hold our sins against us but gave us the message of love.
Leader: Let us share that message with the world in our songs and praise.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, indeed Your ways are not our ways. We turn away from You and even speak against the peace and love You want for us, yet You offered us salvation in Christ. We give You our love and praise. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, You gave us the light that we might choose it and live, yet so often we have chosen the darkness. You offer us the wonders of life and eternity and so often we would rather live in the shadows of our despair. You have opened the door for us to walk once again in Your love and yet we still elect to walk our sinful ways alone. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"In The Garden"
"Crown Him With Many Crowns"
"Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone?"
