Series VI, Cycle B
Call To Worship
Leader: The Lord rules the world with righteousness;
People: he judges the nations with justice.
Leader: The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
People: a place of safety in times of trouble.
Leader: Those who know you, Lord, will trust you;
People: you do not abandon anyone who comes to you.
Collect
Heavenly Father, we are truly thankful for the many blessings you have given us. In your strength we have made it through difficult days. But in spite of your goodness to us we still cry out for help. We face many giants that would enslave us, and under our own power we are not able to overcome them. We pray for your Holy Spirit to give us the help we need to stand up to these Goliaths such as greed, jealousy, prejudice, and so many others. Be close to us, God. By your strength we know that we can be more than conquerors through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, you have sent us on the simple errand of taking food to your sons and daughters, and we have failed to see the larger task of doing battle against the Goliaths of greed and ignorance that cause so much of the world's hunger. Open our eyes to these larger needs, and gird us for the battle with your Spirit of love, caring, and concern. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Onward, Christian Soldiers"
"A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"

Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 6:1-13
Theme: Weapons Of Righteousness
Call To Worship
Leader: Listen! Today is the day to be saved! This is the hour to receive God's call.
People: We will answer when he calls. We will go where he sends us.
Leader: We have righteousness as our weapon when we serve God!
People: We will seek to know his will so that we can share him with everyone.
Collect
O God, once again we gather together to acknowledge you as our heavenly Father, and to see your blessing and guidance. Help us, then, to learn to be still and listen to you. May we hear the Good News of your unconditional love offered to us in Jesus Christ. May we hear your invitation to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and thus discover the fullness of life in his abiding presence. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Eternal God, we want to be counted among your faithful disciples, but we are unwilling to inconvenience ourselves or our friends. We tolerate blatant injustices, saying and doing only enough to quiet our consciences. Lord, forgive our pettiness and our feeble attempts to serve you. Give us the courage to take a stand for righteousness, regardless of the personal cost, so that we may be found worthy of you and deserving of your grace. Amen.
Hymns
"We'll Understand It Better By And By"
"How Like A Gentle Spirit"
Proper 7/Ordinary Time 12
Sunday between June 19 and June 25 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 4:35-41
Theme: Why Are You Afraid?
Call To Worship
Leader: Come to the Lord, whose love can dispel all our worries and fears.
People: Even though we trust in the Lord, we still face the future afraid of the storms life brings.
Leader: Commit yourself completely to the care of our loving God. Only then will your faith be greater than your fears.
People: Come into our hearts, Lord. Abide with us and turn our fears into fearlessness.
Collect
Almighty God, Creator of the universe, reassure us that the inner storms of our own nature are not beyond your control, your quieting touch, so that we may trust you more fully and find the calm we need when circumstances threaten to swamp us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
When the storms of life come up unexpectedly, Lord, we are afraid they will be our undoing. The winds are too strong, the waves too high, we are sure that we will perish and we are afraid. We cry out to you, O God, and we hear you say: "Be quiet, be still, peace!" Grant us that peace in all our days; strengthen our faith and our courage; and send us out as courageous messengers of that peace. Amen.
Hymns
