Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who seek the Kingdom of the Lord gather now for worship!
People: In Christ we have a new spirit fixed not on destruction but on love.
Leader: Respect and care for our neighbors will replace fences and strife.
People: Seeking good for others around us will replace seeking good only for ourselves.
Leader: And the praises for God's love will replace the cries of anguish in life.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and merciful God, in Christ You have called us to be a part of Your Kingdom, and in it we glimpse Your promised eternity to come. Help us faithfully to spread the Good News, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we often forget that You called us into Your Kingdom so we might live before the world the very message of Christ You would have us proclaim. Instead we become entangled more in the hateful ways of the world than we do in the loving lifestyle You created us to demonstrate. Forgive us, Lord, and call us again to live for You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"This Is My Father's World"
"God Of The Sparrow"
"Because He Lives"
Proper 28
Sunday between November 13 and November 19 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Thessalonians 3:6-13
Theme: Christian self-discipline
Call To Worship
Leader: Let our hearts be filled with joy, for we are redeemed Children of God!
People: Our sins have been washed away, yet sin still remains in our hearts.
Leader: In Christ we seek to develop control over the lusts that enter our lives.
People: We must focus on what is necessary, not on the offerings of the world.
Leader: And when we do, the Lord will bless us with contentment, peace, and joy.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and wonderful God, in Your mercy and grace You have called us Your beloved children, leading us ever forward into being more and more Christ-like. Help us resist the sin around us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, far too often we have stumbled and fallen into the very sins we are trying to avoid. Sometimes we even seem to program ourselves to fail by not avoiding the temptations that lead us to sin. Forgive us, Lord, and help us remember Your promise to be with us if only we will seek Your guidance in prayer and battle our sins with all of our being. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Close To Thee"
"Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us"
"Nearer, My God, To Thee"
Proper 28
Sunday between November 13 and November 19 inclusive
Gospel: Luke 21:5-19
Theme: Faithful unto the end
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who await the return of Christ unite today in worship.
People: For Christ is the Lord of history; all nations will bow before God.
Leader: Yet Christ is also the Lord of our hearts and knows each of us well.
People: For the faithful, the final return of the Lord will bring victory.
Leader: And for all who love the Christ there will be eternal life.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and righteous God, be our strength, our courage, and our salvation in the face of all the world might do to silence the message of Your wonderful Good News. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, as we go through the motions of daily living, we often tend to forget that You will one day hold us accountable for the stewardship of both our lives and the resources You entrusted into our care. Too often we live only for the moment, and we even forget Your promised return. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to live each day dedicated to You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Abide With Me"
"O God, Our Help In Ages Past"
"I'll Fly Away"
