A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
Is it nothing to you that He hung on the cross?
Is it nothing to you who pass by,
That he hung there in pain and in torment to die,
that our gain would be great as his loss?
Is it nothing to you that he died there in shame
that our lives might with glory be filled,
that alone and rejected by men he was killed,
as he prayed to relieve them of blame?
Is it nothing to you that the darkness of death
came the light of the world to dispel,
And that death into darkest oblivion fell
Is it nothing to you who pass by,
That he hung there in pain and in torment to die,
that our gain would be great as his loss?
Is it nothing to you that he died there in shame
that our lives might with glory be filled,
that alone and rejected by men he was killed,
as he prayed to relieve them of blame?
Is it nothing to you that the darkness of death
came the light of the world to dispel,
And that death into darkest oblivion fell
