Leaving old occupations for a new profession
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
Mark's version of how Peter and Andrew became Jesus'
disciples implies that a positive response to the Gospel of the
Kingdom, and its demand for repentance and belief, will
necessitate a radical break with one's past (pre)occupations and
a reorientation of one's life in light of a new profession (of
faith).
Liturgical Color:
Green
Suggested Hymns:
O God Of Light
''Come Follow Me,'' The Savior Spake
By All Your Saints In Warfare
Jesus Calls Us, O'er The Tumult
God, Whose Almighty Word
From God The Father, Virgin Born
Epiphany 3
Leave it all, Lord?
Family?
Friends?
Work?
Possessions?
Leave it all?
The call sounds simple.
''Follow me.''
Why does our response become so complicated?
The disciples left everything and followed you.
It is difficult for us to let go of the things
which provide us with stability and security.
Loosen our grip on the things
which compete for first place in our lives.
Grant us the courage to follow Jesus and to
see every possession, every task, and
every person through his eyes.
Enable us to firmly grasp the truth of the good
news, to carefully order our priorities,
and to truly live.
In the name of Christ,
we pray.
Amen.
