A Lesson In Mediocrity
Preaching
Windows For Life
Inspirational And Devotional Illustrations
A man had a bushel of early apples, the kind that spoil easily. His friend smiled at him, because he would always take out the apples which had soft and rotten spots and use them first. As a result he used only half rotten apples until the bushel was gone.
Is that a lesson in living! How about the gossipers who spend their time talking about the faults of someone they knew, and never get around to commending the better examples of persons we might know. What an example of mediocrity!
Or is it an example of the news media that emphasize the sordid ways some people live, but those who live wholesome lives are never reported.
Which shall we choose? Half spoiled or unspoiled?
P.S. I used this "window of life"in a sermon and had a lady tell me she had always taken the half rotten apples first, thinking that was the way to use them. She had missed the point of what I was telling.
