It was a trip never to be forgotten. After visiting some friends on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, we were returning to Baltimore, Maryland. Rather than drive clear up to the top of Chesapeake Bay and down the Western Shore to the city, we chose to travel by a ferry boat, from Love Point to a wharf at downtown Baltimore.
We left the Eastern Shore in late afternoon; dusk came on as we passed Fort McHenry, shaped like a six-pointed star. How would we know where to land, I wondered, as we approached a myriad of harbor lights. I went into the pilot's room and asked about it.
The pilot pointed to a special bright light, high up on a building owned by a wholesale tea and spice company. He answered my question by saying: "That special light above the harbor is my guide. I know that the landing wharf is directly below it. It will guide me home."
What light guides us home? Jesus, the Light of the World!
