Lectionary Worship Workbook
Series III, Cycle A
Object:
Offertory Prayer
C: We lift this bread and cup to you on this night, but it is you, O Lord, who will be lifted up. May the tears of our hearts flow freely as you call us to your table, and may our love for one another be a sign of your great love for us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Post-Communion Prayer
A: Holy and gracious God, as you once delivered your people from the land of Egypt, so now the sacrifice of your Son delivers us. As his blood flows through our bodies, may his love flow through your world, that his life given up in obedience will make all things new.
C: Amen.

Service Notes
The confession that began on Ash Wednesday reaches its completion in a word of absolution and the laying on of hands. The power of this touch as it communicates the spoken, living Word is not to be dismissed lightly. If your people have entered into the mystery of these last forty days in a way that lays their very hearts open to the power of God, then they will need this sacramental touch as a conduit for the word to enter them. The current trend of having a Seder meal on this night misses this profound opportunity. If the concern is how to involve families, then let this night be the first communion for children who have recently received instruction. (MBW 420 would be an appropriate hymn for such a service.) In addition, have the teenagers/confirmands be the helpers in the stripping of the altar. They have not yet lost the ability to enter into a humble act and to discover the presence of God. LBW, Minister's Desk Edition, provides a simple and complete structure.
Psalm 22 may be sung by cantor and choir with the congregation kneeling in prayer.
